Pride of the Seven

"He was never the knight"

[Verse 1] The road ends at the gate of the East At the castle of ANU in ancient stone He was standing there — familiar at least The face she knew — but the face alone

(Archer, low): His shadow doesn’t move right (Priest): He’s been here since before us (Pride, stepping forward): You finally came. They said you would.

[Pre-Chorus] The disguise held for longer than it should He wore the dead and no one understood Behind Envy’s veil — a borrowed name But here at the gate the veil became flame

[Chorus] Pride of the Seven He was never the knight He was borrowed and borrowed and burning inside Pride of the Seven Drops the face in the light At the gate of ANU — the first to arrive He was never on their side He was Pride

[Verse 2] He hated that the Hidden Ones were right He held the mission just to prove them wrong She was nothing — she was noise — she was slight Until she stood here and his certainty was gone

(Pride, quiet fury): I don’t take orders (Pride, barely): Not even from truth (Archer, to Elara): Run — I’ll hold him (Elara): NO — (Archer, firm): I’ll hold him.

[Chorus] Pride of the Seven He was never the knight He was borrowed and borrowed and burning inside Pride of the Seven Drops the face in the light At the gate of ANU — the first to arrive He was never on their side He was Pride

[Bridge] She didn’t wait for permission She didn’t wait for a plan She stepped between Pride and the door And she said — go — now — RUN (sound of the gate grinding open) (Elara, in tears): ARCHER — (Archer, one last time): Remember us, won’t you? (the door seals. one final sound. then nothing.)

[Verse 3] The priest pulled Elara into the dark The silence on the other side too clean She pressed her hand against the cold and the dark And felt nothing — and felt everything — in between

(Elara, breaking): She said remember — (Priest, quiet): Then remember. That is what we owe her.

[Chorus] Pride of the Seven He stood in the night He was bleeding and proud at the ancient stone side Pride of the Seven Alone in the light She gave him the gate and she gave up her life He was never on their side He was Pride

[Outro] And the castle of ANU went still in the East And Pride raised his voice — not a man — more a beast And the Seven heard him across every plane

(Pride, cold and clear): She has entered the ground. (low beat) (Pride): All of you. Come.

(distant horns. growing. seven voices answering.)
